The Curious
Have you ever wondered about the reason for your existence? Why were you placed on the Earth? What exactly am I supposed to accomplish and how? Congratulations! You are officially a part of an extensive and prestigious group known as human beings. Surely, it would be far more concerning if you did Not ponder such things as there is nothing created that did not begin with an intended purpose. We were all created by the Heavenly Father, and according to Proverbs 19:21 ESV, He’s the most purposeful being in existence. Genesis 1:27 informs us that we were created in His image and likeness, and if The Creator is full of purpose, then likewise is the created. To discover the purpose of anything you must first uncover what needs to be accomplished. What mission needs to be completed that a purpose has to be given? As with anything there needs to be clarity, and for such questions to be answered we must know the Mission so that it will reveal our Purpose, after which we can truly embrace our Gifts.
The Mission
What is a mission? Merriam-Webster defines it as: a specific task with which a person or a group is charged (1). This is an indication that as humans we have been charged (or commissioned) with a specific responsibility or task to complete. That’s all very interesting, however, this now warrants the question – Who gave us this mission? The answer to this is simple, God did. How do we know this? As previously stated, God is the most purposeful being in existence. It is also known that humans were made and created in His image and likeness. Therefore, if God is exceedingly purposeful, and He purposely created us, then we were created and born for a purpose. That purpose is to complete His established mission of getting His creation, human beings, restored to Him. This is made evident in Ephesians 4:11-12 GW which reads—He also gave apostles, prophets, missionaries, as well as pastors and teachers as gifts to His church. Their purpose is to prepare God’s people to serve and to build up the Body of Christ (2). That’s the Mission. Building up the Body of Christ, which The Believer recognizes as: “born-again human beings” or The Church. This is so they can start enjoying life through a connection and love for God. His original plan when He created Adam and Eve was for His children to live in eternal harmony with Him (3). Since Satan severely disrupted the original connection, our mission is to help redevelop that connection (4). And the only way to complete this mission is by fulfilling our purpose.
The Purpose
When we hear the word purpose what is the first thing that comes to mind? The reason why a thing was created or exists. Your Purpose is the responsibility that you will consistently and constantly need to fulfill to complete the Mission. This is your calling or that which you have been called to do by The Father. That one thing that you do better than anything else because you were intricately designed to perform it at the highest possible level. While we must learn to recognize and discover our purpose it will always be outlined for us, but hidden until we are prepared and equipped to discern it. If we take the aforementioned Ephesians 4:11-12 GW, specifically part “B” it is revealed that the purpose of prophets, missionaries, teachers, and preachers is to “prepare God’s people” (2). This purpose of preparing God’s people empowers them to go out into the marketplace and join organizations or start businesses while operating on the foundation of Kingdom principles. It is this display that inspires others to inquire about and potentially become a part of the Kingdom Life themselves. Which resultingly builds up the Body of Christ, thus completing the Mission. We must understand that The Mission is global and bigger than any one person. It would be impossible to complete with everyone doing the same thing. While there may be someone else fulfilling a similar purpose as you, we are all called to different areas of life. So, whether your purpose is writing, illustrating, a specific trade or craft, or civil service, fulfilling it will always reveal the pathway for you to complete The Mission. And just like completing the mission requires the fulfillment of your purpose, your purpose will never be fulfilled without operating in your Gift.
The Gift
If He (God) created a mission and then created you with a purpose to fulfill for the completion of that mission, would it not stand to reason that He has also given us gifts for the fulfillment of our purpose? The answer is a resounding yes! As previously stated, your Gift is what you will need to fulfill your Purpose, and it should not be taken lightly. Here’s what I mean by that. Romans 11:29 GW tells us: “God never changes His mind when He gives gifts or when He calls someone” (5). This means that what He gave us He had no intention of taking back. Remember, God is the most purposeful being that exists so He gave that gift for a reason, and you must understand that. Consider the teacher mentioned in Ephesians 4:11 (2). What if they neglected to develop the gift of communication and failed to properly communicate what the student needed to know? Or the gift of discernment & empathy to know when a student is struggling or feeling emotionally overwhelmed. They would not know that they need to adjust their teaching methods. Since their purpose is to “prepare” the people they would have failed to accomplish & fulfill this purpose, and consequentially failing to complete the mission. It is your responsibility to both recognize and develop your gift so you will be prepared to the fullest for fulfilling your purpose and inevitably completing the mission.
In Conclusion
We can spend decades living our lives without ever becoming aware of why we exist. Then we must ask ourselves, have we truly been living? Or simply existing, vainly passing through life using default settings and never entering into the greatness of which we have been called. It is paramount for you to come into the knowledge of not only who you are, but Who’s you are, why you are here, and what you should be doing while you’re here. No one is on this Earth by accident. Each and every one of us has a purpose to fulfill and failing to achieve this whether out of ignorance or blatant disregard is nothing short of a fool’s gambit. Be Blessed!
