Introduction
Space…The final frontier…or is it? It may be the final frontier within the confines of our limited knowledge & imagination, but that does not make it the proverbial end of the road. When I think of how infinite God is I cannot help but wonder exactly what else was created when He was creating. He is the Almighty, the Infinite One, The Most-High. The One Who created time, space, and matter as we know it. Now, we know from study that matter cannot be destroyed, only changed. Why is that? Undoubtedly because it was created by One Who is infinite therefore it is also infinite. As it stands, we have yet to fully explore beyond our own planet & solar system. Sure, there have been people on the moon but, outside of a few drones being dispatched, not one human being has stepped foot on any of the other 7 planets in our solar system. And it has been confirmed that there are thousands of other solar systems within the Milky Way alone. How many other solar systems are there? How many other galaxies are there and how many solar systems do they contain? How big are the suns in those solar systems? What race of beings have been created in His image? God is a creator Who creates three things: creation, creatures, & creators. The latter always in His image. We know this from the Word itself. Then it stands to reason, regardless of it not being mentioned in the Word of God, there are other planetary systems with life. I say this because three is the number of God so when He creates that pattern remains, and He created mankind because He desired someone just like Him. In order to understand that there must be life on other planets, in other planetary systems, and in other galaxies we must operate from a place of knowing God. Let’s take a closer look.
The Character of God
In the first chapter of Genesis, we see the process of creation unfolding as God speaks and creates. With each step it specifically states He saw that it was good (Genesis, Ch 1) Some versions even say He saw that it was good and He approved. Now consider that we are made in His image and His likeness we can look at our own internal nature. When I create something and I see that it is good it inspires me to create more of it. Every human being is the same. This is why the baker bakes and the artisan of any field creates continuously, not stopping at just one creation. Consequently, it stands to reason that God Himself is the same since we are made in His image and likeness. With that knowledge of His character, it should be literally impossible to think that we were the only other “creators” He created. If Earth was not the only “creation” (planet or mass of matter), and the animal kingdom contains various and many creatures (of various shapes, traits, and characteristics), then surely there are other creations, other creatures, and other creators made to His approval as well. As impossible as it may seem or sound, remember His Word in Luke 1:37 – for with God nothing is ever impossible. Likewise, Mark 9:23 tells us that if we can believe all things are possible to those who believe. Ergo, the question is not — Is there life in other planetary systems, the question is — Canst thou believe?
The Power of God
Titus 1:2 and Hebrews 6:18 both specifically state that it is impossible for God to lie. This means, no matter what exists, if God calls it something else it will then have to change to align itself with what He said. This is the power of the Most-High God. He is infinite, His Word is infinite, matter which is His creation is infinite; hence His desire is also infinite. From this it should be easily deduced that it would be virtually impossible for an infinite God to be content with such a finite example of creation that is restricted and limited to only one planet. In comparison to His character and the Power of His Word it does not stand to reason that His creative desire would be limited to one planetary system, one galaxy, one universe, or one race of beings. It just doesn’t add up to Who we know He is. I personally can’t just write one article. Hence the reason there are multiple articles on this site. The baker could not stop with one loaf of bread, hence the reason they open a bakery. The artist cannot stop with one magnificent painting. Hence the reason they open a gallery. The examples of His infinite power are shown throughout His Word. He spoke light be and light was. He spoke to the air and said birds be and birds were. He spoke to the water and said sea creatures be and sea creatures were. Likewise with the land, and even with the creation and formation of mankind we were commanded & empowered to be. For this reason, each and every one of us all have the ability to reproduce after our own kind. This power is inevitable. It must create and produce. We know that the Word says He rested, but that does not mean there has never been creating before us and more creating beyond us. Remember, in God there is no time. He exists outside of time and space. His power is without limits so we may never truly know all that was created. But our curiosity begs an answer, or at a minimum a worthwhile attempt to search and research one. Has He Himself not commanded us to seek (Matt 7:7)? If He created us with a curious nature, why do so many refuse to use it? Curious indeed.
The Sovereignty of God
Sovereignty means supreme power. The highest there is, nothing else above or beyond that which is sovereign. Proverbs 16:4 tells us that God has made all for Himself, even the wicked has a purpose. Now what does this mean? That He made wicked people for entertainment purposes only so he would have someone to judge? —Not at all. It simply means that He is sovereign and He can literally do as He pleases with no one and nothing to challenge Him. I say these things to help you understand the sovereign nature He has. How does this relate to life in other planetary systems and beyond? It’s simple, if there is life beyond us, which I firmly believe there is, how will we know unless He tells us? Who are we to say that He did not create anything or anyone else beyond what is known to us? He is God, who can question Him? He is under no obligation to inform us if He did because honestly, we would never develop any means to pay them a visit in this lifetime. Romans 9:20 points this out specifically: “On the contrary, who are you, Oh man, who answers arrogantly back to God and dares to defy Him? Will the thing which is formed say to Him Who formed it – Why have you made me like this?” The answer is and always will be a resounding no. The only question that you can ever ask is that which will benefit you and those around you as this is the purpose of your creation, to advance and establish His Kingdom on this Earth. That does not mean His kingdom is not being advanced and established elsewhere. Any other life on any other planet would undoubtedly have that same calling.
Conclusion
I call myself “The Curious Believer” for a reason. As I meditate on His Word these types of thoughts and questions enter my mind consistently. How can we know someone so infinite and not ask or even be assured that such a level of creation has most definitely taken place beyond where our minds could ever hope to go? To say that this is the only planet that harbors life is like saying God is without the ability to perfectly create when he speaks. That’s like telling me this one article is the only article you were competent enough to write when clearly that is not the case. Hence the other articles available for your consumption. Without which I would have to change the site to the “Once Thought About It Believer”. There is literally no limit to what I can write for each and every day of my life. I am also an illustrator and likewise I can do that without end. The creative images that enter my mind are limitless. So, if we have that unlimited potential, who are we to try and reduce an unlimited, all powerful, and sovereign God to our level. You may say there is no life anywhere else in the universe, I say how can there not be.
Be Blessed.
