Weapons! Let’s talk about them. You are in a war, and you have no chance of winning without both being fully aware of the weapons at your disposal and willing to put them to use. Merriam-Webster defines a weapon as: something used to injure, defeat, or destroy; a means of contending against another; something with which one fights or struggles against another (1). A simple definition but very powerful in its ability to convey understanding. As Believers we are consistently under attack by our adversary the devil. In the book of Job we learn that he moves to and fro in the earth (Job 1:7). What’s his purpose of moving to and fro? That answer is provided in 1 Peter 5:8 NKJVBe sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Not only do we have an enemy, but he is quite diligent in his role as public enemy number one, and we must likewise be just as diligent to resist. Paul advised the church in his second letter to the Corinthians not to be ignorant of Satan’s devices and that is indeed wise council (2). However, way too many Christians are ignorant of their devices, our weapons, when it comes to dealing with the enemy and the adversities of life. Not only should we be aware of our weapons but fully understand what kind of weapons they are. Satan, our enemy, is a spirit so likewise our weapons must be capable of dealing with spiritual things. The best description of our weapons is outlined in 2 Corinthians 10:4—for the weapons of our warfare are not carnal (physical, natural), but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds). Mighty through God, let that sink in for a moment. Against an enemy who seeks to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10) we have weapons that are mighty through God. They don’t make any better weapons than that. Now that we know what kind of weapons we have access to, let us now take a look at some of those weapons and how they function. Now this will not be a fully exhaustive list as there are way too many to list in one article, but you will have a better understanding of what they are if you don’t already know. Let’s get into it!

PRAYER

How fortunate are we to have an open line of communication to the most powerful being in existence. The creator of time, space, and matter and all things in between. Prayer is a weapon of our warfare that we can use at anytime, anywhere, no matter what the situation and one that we should be utilizing every opportunity we get. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 ESV tells us—Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. God desires to talk to us. In Genesis we see that God spoke directly & face to face with Adam and that desire has not nor will it ever leave Him. So how do we use this as a weapon and what does it combat. Prayer does many things but one specifically made known to us is its ability to counter fear and anxiety—two of Satan’s most used devices. The implementation of prayer as a weapon is outlined in Philippians 4:5-7—Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. I don’t know how many of you have ever dealt with anxiety, but I have a friend who deals with it at a chronic level, and it is quite debilitating. Now imagine sitting in the middle of an exam that’s considered life changing regarding your future and suddenly you’re attacked by anxiety. Now I’m in no way suggesting any alternative lifestyle that’s absent and void of a mental health specialist but I am saying for the Believer when you don’t have access to anything or anyone else you do have access to The Most High God and that peace that passes all understanding. And no amount of anxiety can stand against that.

THE NAME OF JESUS

There is a common aphorism among Americans that who you know is exponentially superior to what you know. In many situations of life that can indeed be true but none more so than when it comes to matters of The Kingdom. Where spiritual things and life itself are concerned “Who” you know can literally mean the difference between life or death. As Children of The Most High God, we have the eternal privilege of not just knowing The Father, but His only begotten son Jesus—our Lord & Savior. In the gospel of John chapter 16 Jesus says this: [v23] And in that day you will ask Me nothing. Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you. [24] Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full. Did you see that—“whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you”. Now I don’t know about you but if I’m facing an adverse situation or circumstance and I have that kind of access to the most powerful being in existence that circumstance just moved to the bottom my list of things to be concerned about. What is it that makes this so powerful? Philippians 2:9 provides the answer to that question—therefore God also has highly exalted Him (Jesus) and given Him the name which is above every name. Name any sickness or disease, any adverse situation or circumstance, any negative outcome that you can imagine, and The Name of Jesus is above it. You know what else makes this weapon so powerful? When Jesus told us in John to “ask the Father in My Name” means to Pray in His name. Now that just made the spiritual weapon of prayer all the more powerful. Isn’t it amazing how these elements flow in unison with each other? God is truly an amazing God.

THE WORD OF GOD

This Book of The Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success (Joshus 1:8). Some people say success is not guaranteed. Well according to Joshua 1:8 that’s not at all true. Meditating the Word of God allows us to experience an outcome of victory before the event ever takes place. This sets our expectation so that when the event arrives, we’ve already obtained the victory. Psalms 1:1-3 tells us that meditating in the Word of God affords us a level of stability and success that’s regarded as unlimited. What hardship can there be to stand against us if we have guaranteed success and prosperity? The answer is a resounding NONE! Hebrew 4:12 NKJV tells us: for the Word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. For any medical professional that tells you there’s nothing they can do this Word counters that. For any individual you encounter operating in deception this Word counters that by giving you discernment to the intents of their heart. All things become possible for the one who chooses to make The Word of God their meditation. And remember—you cannot live by a Word you do not know.

THE BLOOD OF JESUS

The power of this weapon makes it one of our key weapons meaning without it our salvation would not even be possible. Allow me to explain—when Adam & Eve fell death entered into the earth as a result of their sin. Romans 5:12 NKJV says: Therefore, just through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned. This was the activation of the Law of Sin & Death which simply states this: because sin has been committed death now has a legal claim to the life of the one who committed it. Leviticus 17:11 helps us understand this: For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul. This is why animals had to become the sacrifice because without the sacrifice of animals to provide a temporary payment for the blood & life debt owed by mankind every human being born after Adam & Eve would face an eternity of death. This is death by “separation from your source of life”, which is God the Father. Imagine a lamp that has the ability to illuminate a room with light, and although it has this ability it cannot fulfill that duty if it is disconnected from its source of life, which is electricity. Leaving this earth is not the death, an eternity separated from The Father is death. In this we see the awesomeness of the Blood of Jesus. It not only cleanses us of all sins, it literally eradicated it. John 1:29 tells us why: “The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, Behold? The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” This is why Jesus is referred to as the Lamb of God because in spite of all the animal sacrifices that life debt still had to be paid by the human race. Jesus’ sacrifice and death on the cross was that sacrifice. However, God had a plan that the enemy was not aware of. Because Jesus had not sinned death had illegally laid claim to a life where sin did not exist. Since God the Father is the high judge of that legal system that caused Death to forfeit its claim to the human race—INDEFINITELY! Now you see why this is a key weapon for the Believer because without it we would still be subject to spend an eternity separated from The Most High God.

How to Wield The Blood of Jesus:

There are seven places that Jesus bled specifically that allow us to successfully wield ‘The Blood” as a weapon of our spiritual warfare. They are:

  • His Head (For Authority): Matthew 27:29 – When they had twisted a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and a reed in His right hand. And they bowed the knee before Him and mocked him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” This mockery was a direct attack against Jesus’ true nature and position as a king and is likewise the same attack the enemy will attempt to use against you whenever he tries to deceive you your true identify as a King. Yes, this includes women, your sonship has nothing to do with your gender. It’s about your position and inheritance. So, whenever you need to take action based on Who & Who’s you are plead the blood of Jesus and declare your Sonship!
  • Sweat (For Moments of Agony):  Luke 22:41-44 – And He was withdrawn from them about a stone’s throw, and He knelt down and prayed, [42] saying, “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless, not My will, but Yours, be done.” [43] Then an angel appeared to Him from heaven, strengthening Him. [44] And being in agony, He prayed more earnestly. Then His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground. Let’s face it, we cannot live in this world trouble free. Jesus even confirmed it—(John 16:33). But just because trouble exists doesn’t mean we have to tolerate it. You have the right and authority to plead the blood that Jesus bled against any troublesome situation or circumstance and allow the Holy Ghost to instruct you on how to counteract it. Just because trouble exists doesn’t mean we have to tolerate it.
  • Hands (So The Work of Our Hands Can Be Blessed): The nails [spikes] that pierced Jesus’s hands spilled blood that was again payment for a debt that you owed. Resultingly you and your hands are now freed from debt and empowered for success in whatever you put your hands to. In scriptures such as Deuteronomy 28:8 and Psalm 1:3 we see the type and shadow of this benefit. Under the old covenant your obedience to specific conditions was required which means it was a conditional benefit. Now, since Jesus has bled for our sins, we only have need to plead His blood over our hands and they are blessed to be a blessing. Please remember this does not exempt you from the requirement to obey the voice of God 😉.
  • Feet (For Your Territorial Authority): Ephesians 6:15 AMPC says—And having shod your feet in preparation to face the enemy with the firm-footed stability, the promptness, and the readiness produced by the good news of the Gospel of peace. You have legal and inherited authority now to declare peace in every situation or circumstance. You can also walk on the scene and turn the tide of any adversity by pleading the blood that Jesus bled from His feet and interject peace into that situation and watch it manifest. This is the power & sovereignty we have inherited from the Most High God.
  • Side (For The Right to The Holy Ghost): When they pierced Jesus’ side it says that it brought forth “blood & water”. This is significant because it represents one: the sacrament that honors the last supper and two: the baptism by water as a symbol of being cleansed and given new life. That new life, meaning a new person completely free from the blood debt of death, is what authorizes and makes us eligible to receive the indwelling of The Spirit of God. Because prior, as seen throughout the Old Testament, the Holy Ghost could never dwell on the inside of man because of their sin nature. This is important to remember because another tactic of Satan is to remind you of what you used to be. Always be quick to remind him that you are a new creature in Christ and all old things have passed away 2 Corinthians 5:17).
  • Internal (For Any Internal Issues You Face): This is the weapon we use (in conjunction with the Holy Ghost) against any internal struggle or issue. Issues such as anxiety, depression, envy, fear, etc. Plead the blood of Jesus that He bled internally and declare “Jesus dealt these issues and bled for them so that I don’t have to” and refuse to tolerate them. Remember your adversary the devil will only be as successful at antagonizing you as you allow.
  • The Blood He Carried (The Price Paid for You): This is the final payment. The one thing that the law of sin and death required since the Garden of Eden—the blood of human being. This is the blood that paid it all, fully releasing the entire human race from a debt that it could never pay. Nothing says it better than Colossians 2:14 AMPC—Having cancelled and blotted out and wiped away the handwriting of the note or bond with its legal decrees and demands which was in force and stood against us (hostile to us). This note with its regulations, decrees, and demands He set aside and cleared completely out of our way by nailing it to His cross.

This is why I say this is a Key Weapon because without it we would never have obtained freedom.

THE HOLY SPIRIT

Where do I begin when it comes to the Holy Spirit of God? Our Counselor, Advisor, Comforter, Friend, Teacher & Instructor, Guide, Behavioral Health Specialist, Relationship Expert, and Intimate Conversation Specialist dwells on the inside of you! Whew! The list just goes on and on, people. When I tell you that as a Believer under the New Covenant it becomes very easy to understand why it is referred to as “A New & Better Covenant”.

Some Benefits of The Holy Ghost

We can start with John 14:26 NKJV—But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. Did someone mention not being able to recall an important detail? What about that bible verse that can be perfectly applied to your current situation that you’re having difficulty recalling? It doesn’t matter. The Holy Spirit can bring it to your remembrance. And what about learning a new and much needed skillset? He’s got that covered as well.

Have you ever obtained a new position as a leader and didn’t know what to expect from people, unexpected and adverse situations, or knew what to say or do? Your Guide, Teacher & Instructor has that covered as well. John 16:13 NKJV puts it like this: However, when He, the Spirit of Truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. This scripture specifically states that you now have access to all truth not just some. Additionally, it states that you now have access to insight and information on things to come. Having this level of access guarantees that you have the option of knowing what to do in every situation and circumstance. But remember, you must choose to partake meaning before you act or react to any news, situation, or circumstance always consult your Guide. This truth is further reinforced by Apostle Paul’s letter to the Colossians:

Colossians 2:2-3 NKJV—that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love and attaining to all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the knowledge of the mystery of God, both of the Father and of Christ, [3] in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. Contained in these verses are a true power couple—wisdom and knowledge. Merriam-Webster’s dictionary defines knowledge as: the sum of what is known; the body of truth, information, and principles acquired by humankind (3). Websters 1828 dictionary defines wisdom as: the right use or exercise of knowledge (4). This tells us that we, as Believers, have unlimited access to the entire culmination of truth and its correct application. This is truly unlimited power and worthy of giving Him praise because in case you haven’t figured it out—Infinite Wisdom & Knowledge are also weapons of warfare.

So, the next time you feel you don’t know, take a moment and consult with the Holy Spirit of God—because I guarantee you, He does.

THE AUTHORITYOF GOD

If there are any of these weapons that the enemy desires for you to remain ignorant of it is your authority as a Son of God. The reason being is that without knowledge of your authority you will never use it. And if you don’t use it then he, the devil, gets to wreak havoc in your life and all the while you be left wondering why God allowed this to happen. The answer is simple, God didn’t allow it, you did by failing to use your authority. The granting of this authority is outlined in Ephesians 2:4-6—[4] But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, [5] even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), [6] and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus. How does this solidify our authority? Remember the Name of Jesus? It is declared to be “The Name Above All Names” for a reason. As a Son of the Most High God we can:

  • Speak in That Name
  • Command in That Name
  • Demand in That Name
  • Decree in That Name
  • Rebuke in That Name
  • Instruct in That Name
  • Request in That Name

This is why Believers must be careful about referring to themselves as “the bride of Christ”. We are not brides; we are one with Him. A bride is someone who’s being prepared to marry. Meaning she has not yet entered into covenant with her groom. Also meaning she has no right, no entitlement, and no authority to use the name. Now you see why true knowledge is defined as accumulating truth because if all you have is information and that information is incorrect, then you are still ignorant. Can you see now how these weapons flow together, strengthening and reinforcing one another. It is imperative that you have this knowledge because the more ignorant you are the more open you are to be dominated by an enemy that is literally already defeated.

THE ANGELIC FORCE

In a world such as we live in today it is important that you know who you’re riding with. As ambassadors of the Most High (2 Corinthians 5:20), when it comes to protective details we have the greatest of all time—The Angelic Force of The Kingdom of Heaven. Here’s a brief example of how they work:

Psalm 34:7 NKJV—The angel of the Lord encamps all around those who fear Him (Believers) and delivers them.

Delivers them from what exactly? From every evil work.

Psalm 91:11-12 NKJV—[11] For He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways. [12] In their hands they shall bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone.

It does no good to be royalty and an ambassador and not have the protection of the Kingdom you represent.

GRACE & FAVOR

Here we have yet another power couple. Let’s start with grace as outlined in 2 Corinthians 9:8 NKJV—And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work. Biblical grace is defined as: God’s Unmerited Favor, God’s Unmerited Provision, & God’s Unmerited Empowerment. This is a revelated definition that is located and illustrated throughout the Word of God more so than simply stated, but the Holy Spirit can reveal it to any who desire. The main point is with this weapon in your arsenal it is clear to see that no adversity can obtain victory over you.

Now let’s talk about favor. The reason these two are a power couple is because as stated favor is comprehended by grace. It’s a product of grace that gets results in a specific way. Favor is ultimately someone using their power, influence, resources, talent, and ability on your behalf to help you obtain something you could not on your own. Together they are part of the three currencies that exist in the earth. Did you know that grace and favor can get you what money sometimes cannot? This is how powerful they are. Let’s look at some illustrations: in Genesis chapter 41 we see Jospeh go from prisoner to being second in command over all of Egypt because of the favor of God on his life. Trust me, money wasn’t going to get him anywhere in that situation. In my personal life I’ve seen friends with traffic violations they could not pay and given full pardons because of favor—someone used their authority on their behalf when money was not an option for them.

Regarding how to use the weapons of grace and favor in your daily life you do so by yielding to your Helper in every situation of adversity. Because even when money is not available, He will still instruct and advise you on where to go, when to go there, who to talk to, and what to say that will prove sufficient to meet that need. And you will see a miracle unfold before your eyes where only God can get the glory. This is why submission to God is so important because without you being aware your weapons, and even more so how to access and use them you are just targets for the enemy’s pleasure. And no one should desire to live like that.

GOODNESS AND MERCY

According to Psalm 23 goodness and mercy shall follow you all the days of your life. In a society of such turmoil and adversity this is a refreshing and comforting truth to keep at the forefront of your thinking. This is yet another power couple that is accessed simply by yielding to your great Guide known as the Holy Ghost because even when you end up in places and situations that you should not be, goodness and mercy are the “get me out of here” weapons that never fail. It was goodness and mercy from Jesus that afforded the blind man his sight in Luke 18:38-43. It was goodness and mercy that granted a repentant criminal being crucified next to Jesus a guarantee that he would enter Heaven. Just in case you’re wondering about how this weapon works just take note of the examples—they cried out and asked. James 4:2-3 ESV says it clearly—you desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have because you do not ask. [3] You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions. This scripture defines what not to do when you ask. We find the correct way to make requests of God in Philippians 4:6-7 ESV—do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made know to God. [7] And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Again, we see that same flow of how these weapons work together when it comes to wielding them successfully.

When unexpected adversity hits it’s easy to get overly excited and anxious. But take a moment, remember you can ask in Jesus’ name and make a request for God’s goodness and mercy in a situation—even if you’re like the thief and caused it with your own actions. Because it is literally impossible to hear from the Holy Ghost when your heart and mind (both contained in your soul) are overloaded with fear and anxiety.

First comes the peace to calm your hearts and mind, then the Goodness and Mercy of God can flow.

SALVATION AND RIGHTEOUSNESS

I saved these two as last for a reason. Without them none of the other weapons would be available to you. They are ultimately the capstone that opens the door for it all to flow. For it was the peace of God that allowed you to hear the voice of God through His Holy Spirit that instructed and led you to prayer. At which point you asked for His goodness and mercy and He granted you grace, which afforded you salvation cleansing you with the blood of Jesus & making you righteous. After which the Holy Spirit took residence inside of you, granting you access to God’s wisdom and knowledge—giving the right to use the name of Jesus, the blood of Jesus, and the authority of God.

That same Spirit leads you and inspires you to read the Word of God so you can obtain more knowledge of God and Jesus by which both grace and peace are multiplied (2 Peter 1:2). And at the time it all took place, God also placed angels in charge of protecting you in this earth.

CONCLUSION

Let me just say this is in no way a complete list of all the weapons of our warfare but only scratching the surface. When we know the enemy’s devices and are fully aware of what we have to counter them the enemy has absolutely no chance of victory. The Word of God is the most powerful text in the earth and is both unlimited & practical in its application—meaning anyone can comprehend it. I encourage you to take the time to familiarize yourself with the weapons of your warfare as well as your covenant benefits. Ignorance is the number one enemy to success and that holds true for the Believer as well. Plus, the more time you spend in His presence and Word the more you learn about Him, and that’s always a plus.

Be Blessed
